Farmer’s Markets are an increceasilngly popular trend in Houston as there has been a growing number popping up all over Houston the past few years. Here are some popular ones around some of Houston’s great neighborhoods:

Central City Co-Op in Downtown

This farmers market is very different from the average market. It is a self-serve co-op that offers great organic products at reasonable prices. A co-op is a community of people that share an interest in working together for mutual benefit. Central City buys a large amount of organic products and then divides it among its members. There is a membership fee but also visitors can purchase Dollar Daily Pass any time they to purchase organic food. It is opened on Wednesdays from 9 am to 6 pm.

City Hall Farmers Market

The City Hall Farmers Market was launched by Mayor Annise Parker to encourage Houstonians to eat fresh and local. It launched in early October 2010 with 40 vendors and now happens seasonally. It sells from a wide range of different fresh products to even prepared meals. The next date for this farmer market is Sept 12 – Dec. 12, 2013.

Urban Harvest Farmers Market

Urban Harvest Farmers Market is one of Houston’s largest weekly farmers market. It offers a wide variety of local products from coffee, fruits, vegetables, honey, meats, eggs, and more. There are also weekly events that take place such as live music and culinary demonstrations using local products are used. The best products usually sell out quick so get there early in the morning. This farmers market is open on Saturdays from 8 am to noon and Sundays from noon to 4 pm.

 

Houston Farmers Market at Rice Village

This is Houston’s first Texas State Certified farmers market located in Rice Village. Seasonal produce such as micro greens and herbs from Gundermann farms, breads from Kraftmen Bakery, chocolates, preserves, hot peppper jellies, and more are sold there. What is so great about this farmers market is it is only walking distance from many stores in Rice Village. This farmers market is open on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 6:30 pm.
