2013 Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting

Even the near-freezing temperatures couldn’t keep the crowds from coming out to the annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting Ceremony last Friday night at City Hall (901 Bagby, Houston 77002 ). Guests rang in the start of the holiday season and enjoyed live music, a visit from Santa, and of course the lighting of the towering holiday tree (lit with energy-efficient LED lightbulbs). Sponsored in part by Reliant, those who braved the cold received complementary lighted “Santa” hats, and hot chocolate and goodies were available for sale to keep everyone warm. Other sponsors included Southwest Airlines, Houston Parks, and our dear friends at Gables Residential.

“I’m excited once again to kick-off the holidays at City Hall with my fellow Houstonians,” said Mayor Annise Parker of the event. “This is such an animated event filled with lights, fireworks, music, family and friends. It truly signifies Houston’s energy.” This year, Danielle Bradbury from The Voice performed, as well as the Winter Wonderettes, and others. The cold weather did not stop any of the performers from sounding and looking incredible.

ULR attended the spectacular event (taking care to don our mittens, scarves, and ear muffs), and warmed up in the VIP Reception sponsored by Cigna. Hot chocolate, light bites, and holiday desserts were on the menu at the reception, and party-goers also enjoyed a few moments with Annise Parker, who was decked out in her festive sweater. The mayor gave a quick speech followed by representatives from Cigna, both noting how the ceremony is a chance to bring the community together for the Holidays. Guests enjoyed keepsake ornament party favors courtesy of Reliant, each of which has a special message from everyone’s favorite Texan…Matthew McConaughey, the official Reliant spokesperson.
